Event information
Since 1992 she has focused primarily on the production of fine art ceramics that blur the boundaries between the ornamental, the functional and the conceptual. Her working methods are rooted in the African clay tradition. Each piece is unique and handmade, mostly using coil and pinch technique. Every piece is signed, numbered and documented.
Her mission is to preserve a space for handmade items, thereby maintaining the integrity of traditional art workers in an increasingly commoditized world.
Gelderblom has won numerous awards, including the inaugural South African EDIDA award for Best Craft Producer. Her studio is situated in the heart of Cape Town, making it accessible for professionals in the design industry, as well as collectors and tourists. The studio’s emphasis is on the production of high quality art pieces, rather than large numbers of simplified forms. The sizes range from 70cm to 250cm for the vessels and composite totems.
She also holds clay therapy ceramic classes in masterclass, short course and corporate team building workshop formats.
