Event information
Each year as the summertime approaches, Kirstenbosch Gardens opens up its gates for Capetonians to take a magical firefly-lit stroll.
For about a month, guests have the rare opportunity to tour the gardens after dark, with a good chance of glimpsing fireflies.
Fireflies can be spotted throughout the garden, but mainly along the Gardens' Braille Trail, which is a very calm and easy self-guided walking route.
Anyone interested should call in ahead of time to check if conditions are right for fireflies. They can then book a spot. The fireflies are not likely to appear when it is cold and windy, so save the trip for a clear, warm night with no wind.
Bring along a torch and something waterproof (even just a black bag) to sit on.
