Event information
The Kim Donaldson Gallery opened its doors in the heart of Franschhoek in 2013. Internationally renowned artist, Kim Donaldson exhibited his work exclusively overseas for the majority of his career, and this is the only gallery that full collections of his work have been on display in South Africa since the early 1980s. KDG is run by Kim’s daughter, Nicole, and she also steers their online platform dubbed Untitled-Ltd.com.
In addition to being a stage for Donaldson’s work, KDG exhibits talented emerging and established artists from South Africa and abroad. As a gallery, their goal is to provide clients with the best quality artwork and to assist in building strong collections that will not only be a solid investment, but a body of work that they and their families can enjoy for years to come.
For 30 years Donaldson’s art has been exhibited in some of the most prestigious galleries in Europe, Britain and the US. The variation of his work illustrates his need to diversify and challenge himself. Equally comfortable in oils, acrylics, pastels and three-dimensional artworks, he uses any of these mediums to full effect and for any subject matter.
The application too can vary from realistic to contemporary and all styles that fall in between. Although considered by many to be a wildlife artist, Kim does not like this classification, as he considers himself to be a painter of Africa. It just so happens that he is attracted to the birds, beasts, people and wilds of Africa.
