Event information
Explore South Africa’s second oldest township with a guided walking tour led by a local resident. Starting and ending at Amazink, the experience begins with a briefing on the history of the area before heading out on a circular route through the community.
Along the way, groups visit small businesses, spaza shops, schools, and a shebeen, with stops to see mural art, hostels, and the local taxi rank. The walk provides insight into everyday life in Kayamandi while supporting community-run initiatives.
Tours are available for groups of 2–10 people, with options for larger groups on request. A registered guide is included, and basic facilities such as parking and restrooms are available at the starting point. Visitors are encouraged to bring water, sun protection in summer, or rain gear in winter, as well as cash for purchasing food, crafts, and clothing during the tour.
Transport to the venue is not included, though a return transfer can be arranged from the Visit Stellenbosch Tourism Centre. The experience offers a direct, on-foot way to connect with the history and culture of this distinctive township.
