Event information
Karkloof Canopy Tours, based in the Karkloof Forest Reserve, is a ziplining tour of the forest alongside an education of the area's ecology.
Guests learn about diverse trees and ferns and are educated about the birdlife that populates them. Animals that are likely to be spotted include the Knysna Turaco, Emerald Cuckoos and a variety of raptors. Fortunate guests might also sight the rare Narina Trogon or the endangered Cape Parrot while Samango monkeys swing past on trees.
Canopy tours begin with safety instructions and gearing up with harnesses, pulleys, and climbing equipment. A 4x4 then takes guests to the top of the valley where the ziplining takes place. Platforms are high up and guides follow all guests to ensure they glide safely from tree to tree. From this high position the 20-meter waterfall, forest stream and valley are all clear to see.
The Karkloof Canopy Tour consists of 12 platforms and 10 zip-line slides, the longest of which is 200m. The tours last around two hours and are open to those who are eight years and older. Refreshments are provided between tours and booking is essential as tours run at specific times.
