Event information
Grammy-nominated Icelandic rock band KALEO plays South Africa for the first time, presented by BreakOut Events, at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. The Cape Town concert is part of the Way Down We Go Tour, which also visits Johannesburg two days later.
The band formed in 2012 in Mosfellsbær, a suburb of Reykjavik, and is fronted by singer and guitarist Jökull Júlíusson, known as JJ, with drummer David Antonsson, bassist Daniel Kristjansson and guitarist Rubin Pollock. Their sound sits between blues-rock muscle, folk introspection and big hooks.
Their breakthrough came with the 2016 album A/B, which produced Way Down We Go, All The Pretty Girls and No Good. Way Down We Go has close to four billion streams worldwide. The band’s fourth studio album, Mixed Emotions, came out in 2025, and a 10th anniversary deluxe edition of A/B followed in June 2026. They have played festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo.
The support act is still to be announced. Guests may bring their own food and drink, must take their rubbish with them, and should note that Kirstenbosch is a no-smoking venue.
