The Kadampa Meditation Centre Durban is a peaceful sanctuary in the heart of Westville that provides opportunities to learn about the life-changing benefits of meditation. It follows the Modern Kadampa Buddhism teachings of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, which are open to everyone regardless of religion, race, nationality, age or gender. The programs at the centre offer guidelines on how to cultivate a balanced mind.
There are weekly and modern Buddhism classes which have been temporarily moved online to adhere to the Covid-19 lockdown regulations. Kids also get the opportunity to learn simple Kadampa Buddhist teachings designed to help them with their problem solving abilities and developing happy hearts.
The Kadampa Meditation Centre hosts regular or daylong city retreats that give participants the opportunity deepen their knowledge of practicing meditation. These are perfect for entry level practitioners and newcomers. Alternatively there are daylong retreats to the hills as a meaningful getaway to learn meditation in a more peaceful setting. These attract newcomers and experienced meditators alike.
The courses or workshops that are available cover meditation as a theme but also extend to other life-changing topics such as understanding death and dying.
In addition the centre boasts special events like the South African Dharma Celebration; the South African National festival and the International Kadampa Festival which are open to everyone.
