Event information
Best known for his work as a member of The Genuines, Iconoclast, and Sons of Table Mountain, ghoema and Cape Jazz icon Hilton Schilder performs an intimate live show at Alma Cafe this July. Known for his traditional Cape rhythms and proficiency with a wide range of instruments, Schilder has been part of the local music scene since the mid-1980's, when The Genuines' anti-apartheid hit 'Die Struggle' was banned in South Africa.
Since then, Schilder has widened his range of influences, leaning into more indigenous sounds and instruments, while also incorporating electronic production into his singular style. With his most recent album launching at the ArtScape in 2025, he continues to perform at venues across the country, both big and small, bringing his ever-evolving sound.
He is joined by bassist Clayton Norman Pretorius and Kurt Bowers on drums, two musicians who have worked with Schilder on numerous projects and live shows over the years. They bring their own improvisational flair to the performance, ensuring no two shows are the same.
Dinner, dessert, and drinks are available, with kitchen orders closing at 7pm. Live music starts after the dinner service is completed.
