Event information
Harte-Bliksems is a fast-paced Afrikaans romantic comedy that explores the awkward, hopeful, and often hilarious realities of dating in the digital age. Directed by Debeer Cloete and written by Anke Meyer-Auld, the production stars Meyer-Auld and Norman Doubell.
The story follows Annamart and Andries, who meet on the dating app Biltong-en-Bokkies. What begins as a simple online match soon turns into a string of awkward encounters, eccentric personalities, and unexpected moments. With only two actors portraying multiple characters, the production moves quickly between scenes, capturing the humour, misunderstandings, and small moments of vulnerability that come with searching for connection online. A simple yet imaginative set of illuminated blocks supports the performance, allowing the actors’ physical comedy and character work to take centre stage.
Harte-Bliksems premiered at the 2025 Free State Arts Festival, where it played to sold-out audiences and received a strong critical response. The production was nominated for three Vryskitter Awards, including Best Production, with Norman Doubell winning the award for Best Emerging Artist.
The performance is recommended for audiences aged 13 and older.
