Event information
This curated vintage and retro clothing shop specialises in vintage blouses, denim pieces, floral jerseys, sunglasses and shoes, with a particular focus on hippie-esque fashions including boho floral dresses, Indian block-printed cotton sets and caftans. Grand Funk also produces a line of locally made upcycled one-of-a-kind fashions, including items upcycled from vintage sarees that evoke the 1970s music era.
The interior features bright colours and decorations, with posters from old movies and comic books on the walls. An upstairs section houses a mens section. The store's motto is "We keep it groovy", reflecting its flower child aesthetic and 1970s-inspired approach.
Grand Funk operates as a sister store to Duke and the Dolls, located further up Lower Main Road. Duke and the Dolls sells vintage clothing alongside furniture pieces, poetry books, posters and decorative vintage items. Both stores employ a curated, handpicked selection approach rather than bulk vintage sorting.
Pricing ranges from R15 for postcards and R65 for small leather pouches to R1,500 for decorative art pieces such as a lamp made from a mannequin. The shop hosts occasional live music events, with performances by acts including Afrikalt.
