The Gauteng International Book Festival returns for the second edition following the success of its inaugural edition last year.
Headlined by award-winning authors, Dr Siphiwo Mahala (Can Themba: The Making and Breaking of the Intellectual Tsosti, A Biography), and Angela Makholwa (The Reed Dance Stalker, and The 3Oth Candle adapted into the movie, "Love, Sex & 30 Candles") .
In this second edition, the programme is bigger and bolder, buoyed by courage, and imagination and bringing as many debut and emerging authors to Soweto as possible.
The festival's mission is to encourage and sustain the culture of reading which leads to improved levels of literacy. If book-based events are brought closer to the people who need them most, they hrlp improve access to a wider range of genres, and inculcate reading as a lifelong hobby.
Showcasing over 110 authors from the country, on the continent, and across the diaspora the best home-grown book-based stories attendees can immerse themselves in a variety of storytelling.
Two separate programmes are on offer and are made up of a dynamic and magical children’s literacy and storytelling programme and an engaging and inspiring new adult and adult literary programme.
Attendees also have the opportunity to be in the presence of Bulelwa Mabasa the winner of 2023 Sunday Times Non-Fiction Prize.
