Event information
A staple of South Africa’s live music scene, Freshlyground brings its distinctive blend of Afro-pop, soul, and folk influences to an intimate Hout Bay setting. Known for their vibrant stage presence and genre-crossing sound, the band has built a reputation for performances that are as energetic as they are musically rich.
In a more contained venue like The Loft, the experience shifts from large-scale festival energy to something closer and more immediate, allowing audiences to engage more directly with the music. Expect a setlist that moves between well-known favourites and deeper cuts, all delivered with the band’s signature warmth and rhythmic dynamism.
The band recently entered a new era with the addition of lead vocalist Mbali Makhoba, introduced in late 2024 following a five-year hiatus. Since then, Freshlyground has released new material including “Jabula,” “Welele,” and “Take Me Home,” signalling a continued evolution of their sound. Freshlyground’s music is rooted in storytelling and collaboration, often weaving together multiple languages, instruments, and cultural influences. This layered approach translates strongly in a live context, where improvisation and audience interaction play a key role.
