This specialty museum is Loeriesfontein’s most well-known tourist attraction. The windpumps form part of the Fred Turner Museum, and the collection features 27 working windpumps originating from as far afield as the US and Canada.
The late Dr Walton conceptualized this eye-catching array due to his interest in the conservation of windpumps in South Africa. The Loeriesfontein Windpompmuseum is one of a handful of museums around the world which has windmills used for pumping water from wells on display.
A wide variety of different makes and ages have been carefully reassembled for viewing on this old school yard site.
The Fred Turner Museum is situated inside an old Baptist church where hundreds of historical items from the region can be found. This includes a typical Namaqualand ‘trek’’ farmer wagon, plus a tent, bedding, 'kook skerm' and various tools.
