Event information
Readers, writers, poets and publishers from across South Africa converge every year in the scenic town of Franschhoek in the Western Cape to celebrate the literary arts at the Franschhoek Literary Festival (FLF). The diverse range of Southern African non-fiction and fictional writers included at the festival covers both well-established authors to aspiring newbie writers.
The FLF is a non-profit organisation established in 2007 by a committee of six volunteers who wanted to create a festival of mostly English-speaking South African writers with some international writers included.
The festival is dedicated to raising funds for the local community, school libraries and training by placing assistant school librarians through the FLF Library Fund. The three-day festival occurs during the third weekend in May from Friday to Sunday and takes place in various village venues all within walking distance of each other.
Tickets to all the Festival events, including restaurant events and classical concerts, can be purchased at the Franschhoek Wine Valley and Tourist Association. Anyone wishing to attend the festival is advised to book their accommodation well in advance as the event is quite popular and in high demand.
