Storyteller Cameron Peters leads a guided walk through the sites and history of Cape Town's 19th-century shoreline, timed for Heritage Day weekend. The route passes through locations that once held bustling fish markets, apartheid-era mausoleums, dockside brothels, pubs and busy cinemas, tracing how the city's foreshore has changed shape over more than a century.
Rather than a straightforward historical recitation, the tour is built around storytelling, encouraging participants to engage with the layered and sometimes uncomfortable history beneath the modern foreshore. Peters draws connections between physical locations and the social history that shaped them, from commerce and leisure through to displacement and inequality.
Participants are advised to wear sunscreen, a hat and comfortable walking shoes, and to bring a bottle of water for the three-hour route. Questions are encouraged throughout.
The tour starts and is based at Zeitz MOCAA, within walking distance of MyCiTi Waterfront stops and nearby e-hailing pickup points.
