The Dotsure George Arts Theatre presents Footloose: The Musical, based on the 1984 film of the same name. The stage musical adaptation follows Ren McCormack, a teenager who moves from Chicago to the fictional small town of Beaumont, where dancing and rock music have been banned by the local pastor. The story centres on Ren's efforts to challenge the ban, rallying the town's youth around the right to self-expression and freedom of movement.
The musical includes songs from the original 1984 film as well as additional material written for the stage adaptation, with the score featuring the title track "Footloose" and "Holding Out for a Hero". The original film, directed by Herbert Ross and starring Kevin Bacon, was a significant commercial success and introduced both songs to international audiences. The stage version was first produced on Broadway in 1998.
The production runs for eight performances across two weeks. Tickets are also available from the theatre box office, open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.
