Event information
The Friends of Orchestral Music are delighted to present a fundraising Sunset Soiree of music and conversation - in collaboration with Bowmans, featuring their breathtaking city views, delicious food and statement wines.
These glittering evenings take place on the 11th floor of the Bowmans’ Cape Town office, where guests are greeted to a sunset drink overlooking the city, before settling down to a mix of chamber music featuring some of South Africa’s finest star musicians and a fascinating talk looking 'behind the music'.
Following the first soiree in March going 'inside the piano', FOM now tunes into the string family - from their Baroque origins to the modern day .
Four of South Africa's foremost musicians, Annien Shaw, Ralitza Macheva, Petrus Coetzee and Rosamund Ender - who are all affiliated with both the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra - present a programme showing the diversity of style as well as the difference between old and contemporary instruments. As with the piano, the upkeep of the instruments is also a fascinating and important conversation.
Thanks to the generous support of Bowmans and Bill van Rensburg, the Friends of Orchestral Music are able to offer these unique evenings in order to raise much needed funds for the upliftment and development of orchestral music and musicians across Cape Town.
John Woodland, who gives pre-concert talks for the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and presents 'Symphony at 7' on Fine Music Radio is host for the evening. The concert is followed by sumptuous canapes, delicious wines and the chance to talk to John and the musicians about their music, with the opportunity to take a closer look at the instruments.
All proceeds go to projects of the Friends of Orchestral Music.
