Event information
AAFRICAA presents a new collection by Cape Town designer Laurie Wiid van Heerden of Wiid Design, his most ambitious exploration of ceramics so far. All the works are new and are launching exclusively at the store, giving visitors the first chance to see and buy them.
The collection grew from Laurie’s lifelong habit of gathering stones, seed pods, tortoise shells and seashells, which fill his studio. At its centre are 24 ceramic reliefs, each depicting a different species, including the secretary bird, Cape dwarf chameleon, pangolin, African moon moth, quiver tree and disa flower.
It also includes ceramic seed pods, hawksbill turtle shells, tall vases and trinket boxes, alongside containers that combine glass, cork and ceramic, in a range of glazes. A series of ceramic masks reinterprets decorative forms with carved details and playful accents, and three larger African Mask Sculptures bring in botanical references.
AAFRICAA is a curated store for contemporary African fashion, homeware, jewellery and objects in The Alfred at the V&A Waterfront.
