Event information
To mark the start of the festive season, every year the Cape Town CBD plays host to a huge concert to celebrate the switching on of the city's festive lights display.
The concert starts at 4pm and goes on well into the evening as the city comes alive with the decorative lights that speak to a new theme: 'People of Hope'. Attendees are treated to a selection of local and national artists set to entertain, while a video mapping display is projected.
The 2024 lineup features comedians, musicians, and entertainers alike, such as Alan Committie, Blackbyrd, Carletheia, Cheree And Wynand Strydom, DJ Caycee, Dr Victor & The Rasta Rebels, Fagrie Isaacs & Candice Thornton, Lunga Tshuka, Mafikizolo, Meneer Cee, Mörda, OG Dancers, Ouma Sarie, TikTok SVNS, and Waseef Piekaan.
The City of Cape Town is also excited to announce the People of Hope Comedy Competition - a new addition to this year’s festival line-up that celebrates the city’s diverse humour. The competition winner receives a R10 000 cash prize and also gets the chance to delight the crowd with a live performance at the switch-on event.
