Elgin Open Gardens

Event information

Nine large gardens in the Elgin district open their gates to the public over two weekends to benefit local charities.

The gardens are Auldearn, Elgin Vintners Country House, Fresh Woods, Houw Hoek Outspan, Keurbos, Lavenham, Jessie Walton’s new garden at Sonop (on Keurbos), the Stone Kitchen and Wildekrans Country House.

From a plantswoman’s hilltop garden that skilfully coordinates unusual indigenous and exotic plants, to a recently restored formal garden from the 1920s with original stonework, these stunning gardens are a journey for the senses. Plant-lovers and sight-seers alike are in for a treat to see panoramic views over the Kogelberg biosphere, a major collection of heritage and species roses, many rare trees and shrubs, and so much more.

Plants are available for sale at Keurbos and Fresh Woods.

Teas, picnic areas, lunches and wine-tasting are available at some of the gardens.
