Event information
Drie Kuilen Nature Reserve is a 4,300-hectare conservation area in the Klein Karoo's Montagu district, just a two-hour drive from Cape Town. The reserve features diverse landscapes, rich fynbos, renosterveld vegetation, and protected wildlife, including Cape Mountain Zebras and Bontebok. Activities include hiking, mountain biking, scenic drives, and visits to natural rock formations or historic sites.
The reserve’s hiking trails lead to panoramic views of valleys and mountains, including summits higher than Table Mountain. Highlights include the Zebra Trail, offering natural rock pools and streams, and routes showcasing rock art and stone ruins. Mountain biking trails cater to all skill levels, with opportunities to see game and enjoy views of the Koo Valley and beyond.
Visitors can explore independently or join guided scenic and game drives, which often feature sightings of indigenous species like eland, springbok, and honey badgers. The natural environment also supports birdwatching, photography, and self-drive safaris. For families, the reserve offers a jungle gym, trampolines, and tailored drives for younger participants.
Accommodation ranges from off-grid cottages to fully equipped houses and group facilities. Options include Eland House with an outdoor hot tub, Springbok House with cozy terraces, and Mongoose Manor for much larger groups and school trips. Campsites near the dam provide shaded spots with basic amenities.
Drie Kuilen is invested in conservation and eco-friendly practices, preserving its unique biodiversity while welcoming visitors for recreation and education. Its natural beauty and varied activities make it an engaging destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
