Event information
De Grendel, meaning latch or lock in Dutch, is one of Cape Town’s oldest farms, stretching out over almost 330 hectares on the fynbos-covered slopes of Tygerberg Hill.
Taste De Grendel wines in a setting that Table Mountain smiles upon. The views of Table Mountain and Cape Town from the long glass encased verandah of the De Grendel Tasting Lounge and Stoep are possibly the most spectacular of any wine farm in the Cape. Look out over the vineyards to the magnificent view of Table Mountain, Cape Town city and the Atlantic Ocean, or chill in the relaxed lounge atmosphere. Wine Tasting options are:
Premium Tasting: R120 or Flagship Tasting: R140
The De Grendel Farm Tour introduces guests to the history of the farm and the Graaff family. The tour begins with a walk through the vineyards, where guests can see the different grape varieties grown on the farm and learn about the terroir and microclimate that make De Grendel’s wines unique. The guide will explain the farming techniques used to ensure high-quality grapes, and visitors will have the opportunity to taste the grapes straight from the vine.
Bookings essential one day in advance via [email protected]
Cellar tours are available from Monday to Thursday at 11h00 by appointment only. The cellar tour costs R220 per person and includes a Flagship Tasting and a guided tour through the cellar.
Enjoy the contemporary Cape Town cuisine, designed to complement the range of De Grendel wines (available at cellar door prices from De Grendel Restaurant). The Graaff family’s passion for winemaking extends to the philosophy they employ at De Grendel Restaurant: the use of seasonal and locally sourced fresh produce, and a menu that is updated regularly, reflective of the unique culinary heritage of the Cape, and created with complementary De Grendel wines in mind.
A picnic at De Grendel Wine Farm is a great idea. The farm is renowned for its breathtaking views, fine wines, and lovely gardens, which make it the perfect spot to unwind with loved ones on a lazy afternoon.
There are several spots on the farm where guests can have a picnic, such as the lawn in front of the tasting room, the vineyards, or the lovely gardens. Every picnic area has stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape, making it the ideal location for soaking up the sun and taking in the scenery.
The farm provides a selection of picnic baskets to accommodate all budgets and preferences.
