Event information
Contemporary jazz saxophonist Dave Koz returns to South Africa for a picnic-style concert on the Kirstenbosch lawns, joined by bassist, vocalist and producer Chris Walker as special guest. The Cape Town date opens a two-city tour that continues to Pretoria the following night, promoted by BreakOut Events.
Koz has built a three-decade career as one of contemporary jazz's most recognisable names, with multiple Grammy nominations, twelve No. 1 albums on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Chart, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the 2023 Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award. His catalogue spans smooth jazz standards alongside his long-running Christmas Tours and Summer Horns tours.
Walker spent more than two decades as musical director, bassist and co-vocalist for the late Al Jarreau, and has also worked with Ornette Coleman, Art Blakey, Bob James and Cassandra Wilson. His own recordings have produced multiple Top 5 R&B singles, and he currently fronts the band Maze.
An opening act was still to be announced at the time of the show's launch. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and drinks, or pre-order from the Kirstenbosch Tea Room or Moyo Restaurant, and food trucks are available on site. The concert is a non-smoking event, and attendees are asked to take their own rubbish with them.
