Young dancers from the Eoan Group and Dance for All take the stage alongside performers from Cape Town City Ballet in an abbreviated youth production of Coppélia, marking the culmination of a five-month training and rehearsal programme.
Coppélia follows Franz, a village youth who becomes fixated on Coppélia, a lifelike doll built by the mysterious inventor Dr Coppelius, and Swanilda, his clever fiancée, who sets out to uncover the truth behind the doll. The story is told through comic, character-driven choreography rather than the full-scale production staged by Cape Town City Ballet's main company.
The Eoan Group is a Cape Town performing arts organisation founded in Athlone, offering training across ballet, contemporary and hip hop dance, drama and music. Dance for All is a community dance development programme that similarly provides structured training to young dancers. Both organisations partner with Cape Town City Ballet to give participants performance experience alongside professional dancers.
