Event information
A free community paddle out takes place at Three Anchor Bay in Sea Point on Saturday, two days ahead of the United Nations’ annual World Oceans Day on 8 June. The event is open to anyone with a kayak, surfboard, stand-up paddleboard (SUP), canoe, or any other non-motorised watercraft, and is centred on ocean awareness, conservation, and community gathering rather than competition or performance.
World Oceans Day has been officially recognised by the United Nations since 2008 and takes place annually on 8 June. The 2026 global theme, “Reimagine: Beyond The World We Know, A New Relationship With Our Ocean,” focuses on rethinking how communities engage with and protect the ocean for future generations.
Three Anchor Bay is a small cove on the Atlantic Seaboard, used regularly by kayakers and SUP paddlers as a launch point, with a slipway directly from the adjacent car park onto the water. The event is weather dependent, with final confirmation to be communicated closer to the date if conditions are unfavourable. No advance booking or registration is required.
