Caroline's Red Wine Review, now in its 38th year, presents 90 of South Africa's top-tier red wines in a walk-around tasting format at the Members' Lounge on the 4th floor of the DHL Stadium. The event is hosted by Caroline Rillema of Caroline's Fine Wine Cellar, whose stores in Sea Point and Tokai are among the country's most respected specialist wine retailers. Winemakers attend in person, allowing guests to engage directly with the producers behind the wines.
The tasting covers a broad cross-section of South Africa's flagship red wine categories: Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz/Syrah, Merlot, Pinotage, Cinsault, Grenache and niche varieties, as well as Bordeaux-style, Rhône-style and Cape blends. Each producer presents a single exceptional wine, resulting in a curated 90-bottle showcase. Each ticket includes a crystal tasting glass and a detailed printed wine list. Attendees can place orders to purchase wines from the list at a 15% discount off usual retail pricing.
The Members' Lounge is a glass-fronted space that opens onto a veranda with panoramic views across the stadium. No food is served beyond cream crackers; guests are advised to eat before arriving. Secure, undercover parking is available at R70 per car.
