Event information
Broadway to Blockbuster is a two-concert programme presented by the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town at Cape Town City Hall in June 2026. The concerts are conducted by Richard Cock, former Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra of South Africa and Artistic Director of the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra, widely recognised as one of South Africa’s most experienced orchestral conductors. He is joined by South African tenor Jonathan Roxmouth, who has performed the title role in The Phantom of the Opera both in South Africa and internationally, and whose repertoire spans opera, musical theatre and concert performance.
The programme moves between Broadway and film, encompassing numbers from The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Les Misérables, West Side Story, and The Phantom of the Opera, alongside popular music and cinema orchestrations including Bohemian Rhapsody and Ennio Morricone’s score from The Mission. The Philharmonia Orchestra accompanies the choir throughout and performs orchestral suites from the film scores of John Williams (Star Wars), Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Caribbean), and music from Superman and The Lord of the Rings.
