Event information
Through frequent after-school rides, holiday clubs, workshops, and birthday party sessions, BreakAway Rides helps young riders develop confidence, coordination, fitness, and problem-solving skills while exploring nature and forming lasting friendships. Every ride is designed to balance skill-building with adventure, ensuring children feel supported while having fun.
BreakAway’s Junior programs cater to ages 5-17 and are divided into Foundation, Experienced, and Expert levels. Foundation riders learn essential skills like bike handling, braking, balance, cornering, and negotiating small trail obstacles. Experienced riders build on these skills with wheel lifts, manualing, switchbacks, jumps, and longer rides to improve endurance. Expert-level Juniors tackle technical terrain, larger drops, and advanced jumps while refining speed, control, and overall trail confidence. All sessions run with a maximum 6:1 coach-to-rider ratio, led by certified mountain bike instructors who provide guidance, support, and real-time feedback.
Weekly term rides are available in the mornings or afternoons across multiple Cape Town and Winelands locations, including Constantia, Tokai, Deer Park, Meerendal, and Jonkershoek. Holiday clubs and workshops offer multi-day skill progression sessions, focusing on specific techniques each day, while outrides allow Juniors to practice flow, speed, and endurance on scenic trails. Birthday parties can also be arranged for Junior riders, blending technical skill drills with fun games and trail riding in safe, small groups.
Each program includes skilled instruction, photos and videos of progress, basic mechanical support, and optional transport. With these offerings, BreakAway Rides provides a structured yet adventurous environment where Junior riders grow their skills, confidence, and love for mountain biking.
