Event information
Bone Stomach is a theatre performance that blends African storytelling with music, movement, and ritual to explore themes of inheritance, memory, and womanhood. Adapted for the stage by Qondiswa James from Ziawa Jande’s original story, the production draws on lyrical storytelling and ensemble performance to create a layered theatrical experience.
The story unfolds on the night of Grammah K’s death, following three generations of women who are healers born without navels. As they perform an ancestral ritual, long buried memories begin to surface, revealing a history shaped by corruption, betrayal, murder, and justice. Through this process, the women confront the past and the forces that continue to shape their lives.
Blurring the boundaries between myth and reality, the production uses song, dance, and the symbolic landscape of the forest to evoke the spiritual and emotional worlds of its characters. At its heart, Bone Stomach reflects on how stories are carried in the body and passed down through generations, and how women inherit not only trauma but also resilience and strength.
Recommended for audiences aged 12 and older.
