Event information
Bit by Bit Mosaic is a design company founded by mosaic artist Kerry Atherstone, who began the business when she was studying clothing design at Cape Technikon. She experimented with smashing tiles for a reconstructive design brief, discovering a passion that evolved into a career.
The studio specialises in three areas: custom mosaic art commissions, community work, and events. Commercial clients include Weylandts, Moro Gelato and Aurum, with work spanning retail, residential and commercial spaces. The design process involves collaborative consultation to create custom pieces suited to specific spaces and client styles.
Workshops teach beginners the ancient practice of mosaic making, with half-day sessions available. Materials, small projects and tools are included, with participants taking home completed work. Team-building packages offer companies a creative experience focused on joint effort and communication. Kids birthday parties and hen parties can also be arranged. Take-home mosaic kits are available for purchase.
Community projects focus on skills transfer and social upliftment, particularly in education. Atherstone facilitates workshops that teach community members mosaic techniques, often involving both adults and school children. Selected artworks from children serve as reference images for larger collaborative installations in public spaces, with community trainees participating in the creation process.
Limited spaces are available for workshops and classes, and booking is advised.
