Event information
The Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival is Joburg's most anticipated annual youth arts festival. The festival highlights young people's role and participation in creative and social movements.
The festival, which is often in the middle of the year typically culminates in the Sounds of Freedom Festival, which features performances by various musicians, spanning genres such as jazz, hip-hop, electronic music, and more to end the youth festival off. In 2025, the music festival has been pushed to September.
This year’s line up will include Pabi Cooper, Mthandeni, Toss, Kid Fonque, DJ Cindo, Que DJ, Jah Seed & The Admiral, and more acts. Party goers can also look forward to a guest performance from this year’s Basha Uhuru Music Legacy Award winner – none other than Kwaito legends, Boom Shaka.
As always Basha Uhuru is committed to providing platforms for up-and-coming artists and new talent along with local mega stars. The music festival opens at 10am, and festival goers can enjoy a full day at the Curated Market with live music and performances, activations, food stalls and bars.
No under 18s allowed.
