Barley's Bloset combines a curated preloved clothing and homeware store with a running programme of community workshops on Observatory's Lower Main Road. The retail side stocks secondhand clothing, accessories and homeware alongside pieces from independent local brands, with new stock added weekly.
Beyond retail, the shop runs Slow Sew Studio, offering beginner sewing courses aimed at building practical skills from scratch, alongside workshops on reworking old clothing into something new. A weekly Crochet Club brings people together for an informal, skills-based social meet-up open to all levels, requiring no purchase to attend.
The space also hosts seasonal markets and clothing swaps as part of its broader community programme, positioning itself as a hangout as much as a shop, in keeping with Observatory's long-standing reputation as Cape Town's hub for thrifting and vintage fashion.
