South Africa's hit production company, Baked Shakespeare is back with its 5th season of theatre with their classic cannabis twist.
After winning a Bronze Standard Bank Ovation Award at the 2023 National Arts Festival, followed by their debut performance at The Edinburgh Fringe (and full London tour), Baked Shakespeare is officially opening their first Tragedy: Macbeth.
Macbeth is the original tragicomedy - sexy, dark, brimming with witchcraft, feminism, and bloody ambition. This Shakespearean classic tells the story of a Scottish general, who is spurred by a prophecy from three witches to murder the king and seize the throne, coupled with Baked Shakespeare's s cannabis-infused chaos.
The interactive element of Baked Shakespeare involves the audience choosing two cast members to be the ‘stoners’ of the night. The chosen actors are required to smoke up to five bongs in a show at the audiences’ will. The incorporation of cannabis and its heady effects within the performance, whilst seamlessly blending the rich language and complex emotions of Shakespeare’s plays, sets this play apart from the rest and is a novel way of bringing new audiences to the theatre
Join the award-winning company for a psychedelic evening of classical performance with a twist, and some of the grooviest 420 vibrations imaginable.
