Event information
The Tokai Backgammon Club meets every Wednesday evening at Bootleggers Tokai, bringing together 15 to 20 regular players in a social setting open to all skill levels. The format is informal; no advance booking or membership is required, and newcomers are welcome to arrive, find a table and join in.
Backgammon is one of the oldest board games in recorded history, with evidence of play dating back more than 5,000 years. The game is played on a board of 24 narrow triangles, with each of two players moving 15 checkers around the board according to dice rolls, aiming to remove all their pieces before their opponent. The combination of chance and strategy makes it accessible to beginners while remaining deeply engaging for experienced players.
The club is affiliated with the South African Backgammon Association and is part of a network of clubs operating across Cape Town and South Africa.
