Long Shots Improv presents Back to Basics, a beginner-friendly improv workshop hosted at the Observatory Community Centre. Designed as an accessible entry point into improvisational theatre, the session focuses on core principles that underpin unscripted performance.
Open to complete newcomers as well as performers seeking to revisit foundational techniques, the workshop introduces essential skills such as listening, agreement, spontaneity and ensemble awareness. Through structured exercises and guided scene work, participants are encouraged to build confidence, respond in the moment and collaborate effectively with scene partners.
Rather than emphasising performance polish, Back to Basics centres on process and play, creating a supportive environment in which participants can experiment without pressure. The format allows those new to improv to gain practical tools, while offering more experienced improvisers an opportunity to strengthen technique and reconnect with the fundamentals that sustain strong scene work. The workshop is for ages over 18.
