Event information
Avondale Wine Estate opens seven organic spring gardens to visitors over a weekend. The route takes in the cellar gardens and the private gardens of four of the estate’s families, alongside the estate’s historic Cape Dutch buildings and many mature trees.
Visitors can walk through the two working vegetable gardens that supply the estate’s FABER restaurant, stroll over meandering streams and see the indigenous beds, rose gardens and meadow. A herd of Angus cows, working ducks and free-range chickens live on the farm, and this year a new meander through the wild garden has been opened.
Guided garden walks start outside the cellar on both days, and there is a farm walk on Saturday morning. Afterwards, guests can taste the estate’s organic and biodynamic wines, book a table at FABER, or have tea with scones and cakes, Ochra Deli treats, or a glass of Armilla Cap Classic with strawberries and cheese platters. Plants from the garden nursery are for sale.
The event is cashless, with SnapScan and card accepted. No dogs or own picnic baskets are allowed. All entrance fees go to the Avondale Community Organisation, a non-profit that runs a creche and playschool for the estate’s community.
