Assegaai Submarine Museum

Event information

SAS Assegaai, South Africa's historic Daphné-class submarine, was launched in 1970 and decommissioned in 2003. Now, meticulously preserved by the Naval Heritage Trust, this legendary vessel has undergone a remarkable transformation as a museum of science and technology, and is available for viewing by visitors on a daily basis.

The SAS Assegaai Museum promises an unforgettable voyage through time, igniting a passion for science, technology, and South Africa's remarkable maritime heritage. On each guided tour, visitors can explore the marvels of how submariners lived in these extraordinarily cramped quarters, see where they slept and what they were allowed to bring with them on each voyage. iThey can learn about its electric propulsion, its ability to dive to exceptional depths, and its impressive combat system.

Knowledgeable guides share captivating stories about the submarine's history, its missions, and the lives of the submariners who served on board. Guests can experience the submarine first hand, including its inner working and control room, as well as see detailed displays and artefacts.
