Neues Lied is a festival for art song with a focus on contemporary music founded by Esthea Kruger in Würzburg, Germany in 2018, and established in Cape Town in 2022.
Artist line-up for the Neues Lied festival includes Violina Anguelov-Hobbs( Mezzo-Soprano), Farida Bacharova (Violin), Graham du Plessis (Cello), Minette du Toit-Pearce (Mezzo-Soprano), Silke Evers ( Soprano), Konstantin Ingenpaß (Baritone), Azra Isaacs (Viola), Juliet String Quartet, Esthea Kruger ( Artistic Direction, Piano), Paulina Malefane ( Soprano), and Albie van Schalkwyk (Piano).
The second instalment of the annual competition, which again invites young singers and pianists from the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University to showcase their talent with a programme of several art songs in various languages.
In the final round the very best of these duos compete for R34 000 of prize money, sponsored by the Rupert Music Foundation.
