A Glimpse of Light is a contemplative double bill bringing together two emerging choreographic voices in an intimate exploration of memory, connection, and the spaces between past and present. Presented as part of the Young Professionals series, the production showcases graduating work shaped through collaboration, experimentation, and personal storytelling.
iNkanyezi, choreographed by Bongiwe Mkhumbeni, is a gentle and introspective piece that draws on childhood memory, faith, and ritual. Through repetition, softness, and embodied movement, the work reflects on the quiet ways in which a sense of home is formed and carried within us. Light emerges as both a symbol and a shared experience, held and passed between bodies in motion.
In contrast, Glimpse, directed by Sonja Louw, offers a striking physical theatre response to environmental loss, inspired by recent fires in the Western Cape. Blending movement, performance, and live music, the piece examines the fragile relationship between humans and the natural world, offering only fragments, moments of tension, beauty, and reflection.
