Friends of Valkenberg Trust hosts its annual Mandela Day colour run at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital in Observatory. The 5km event is open to runners, joggers and walkers of all fitness levels and raises funds in support of patients at Valkenberg Hospital, with proceeds going directly towards the Trust's patient care and inclusion initiatives.
Friends of Valkenberg Trust is a non-profit organisation supporting Valkenberg Hospital, one of South Africa's oldest psychiatric institutions, situated on a historic estate on the banks of the Black River in Observatory. The Trust funds programmes and resources for patients that fall outside the public health budget, with a particular focus on mental health awareness and social inclusion.
As part of Mandela Week, the Trust is also collecting donations of non-perishable food items, clothing, blankets, toiletries, and essential items for patients in need at the Trust's office from 13 to 17 July, 9am to 2pm. Those unable to participate in the run can donate money directly.
