Hout Bay’s vibrant cultural scene just got a fresh addition with an innovative outdoor movie experience at The Collective. Every Saturday evening, movie lovers gather to enjoy screenings with a twist—a silent cinema experience powered by CINEWAV, a cutting-edge technology that allows audiences to hear the film’s audio through their own devices and headphones.
Hosted by Mobile Cinema Africa in partnership with The Collective, this weekly event transforms traditional movie nights into a unique, immersive experience. Here’s all you need to know.

What is CINEWAV and How Does it Work?
CINEWAV is a revolutionary piece of technology that eliminates the frustration of background noise when watching a movie outside. Instead of conventional speakers, viewers tune in via the CINEWAV app, ensuring crystal-clear audio without background noise or distortion. Viewers can either bring their own headphones or borrow a pair on the night, making the entire process seamless.
It’s the perfect tool for an immersive cinema experience, especially when paired with the beautiful location and delicious food on offer at The Collective in Hout Bay.

Movie Nights at The Collective
The Collective is playing host to four exciting movie nights over the course of the month. The lineup for April features a mix of classics and modern favorites:
5 April: Beetlejuice
12 April: Crazy, Stupid, Love
19 April: Mufasa
26 April: The Greatest Showman
Moviegoers are encouraged to arrive early to secure the best seats, with screenings starting at 7:30 PM. Families can take advantage of a special ticket option that allows four people to connect to one phone using an earphone splitter.
Meanwhile, engage in a delicious dinner with the movie with The Collective’s new Harvest Menu, valid from 9 to 22 April. With delicious options such as frankfurter and boerewors hotdogs, prawn curry with coconut milk and sweet potatoes with anchovies, as well as vegan options that include a Belarusian beetroot salad and mouth-watering roast potatoes, there’s something on the menu for everyone.
The menu at The Collective changes every two weeks, so booking is essential to receive these mouth-watering dishes. Attendees pay according to the weight of the food on the plate, making it an innovative experience. Prices per plate range from R140 (medium) and R180 (large) to R250 (heaped plate).
The full cafe menu will also be available at every screening, and can be browsed on the website.
The Collective is a bring-your-own-bottle space, with a R50 corkage charge to cover service and ice costs.
