A joint collaboration between architects, textile designers, and property developers, Between Two Suns is a new permanent archway connecting Long Street and the Company’s Garden in City Centre. With a newly commissioned artwork and improved walkability, the project aims to make one of Cape Town’s busiest areas into a public space that’s designed for citizens above all.
Here’s everything visitors need to know.

More about Between Two Suns
Made by companies Blok, Studio Kalki and TwoFiveFive, Between Two Suns is the latest addition to making the experience of walking Cape Town more accessible and enjoyable, following in the footsteps of Bree Street Sundays and more permanent installations like the Alpha Street Gallery.
Where there was previously a wall at the Ten On V aparthotel, pedestrians can now walk through a decorated passage on their way through the city. Even better, the new space includes a public seating area so anyone can take a moment to rest and enjoy the artwork.
Between Two Suns is the name of the archway artwork, designed by Durban-based design company Studio Kalki. It features bespoke, hand-glazed ceramic tiles that use Cape Town’s beloved iconography to tell a story. With fynbos, light, and the meeting of two oceans, it communicates what makes the city special.
More than a static installation, the composition is framed by the rising and setting sun, changing the viewing experience for each visitor throughout the day. Rather than a simple connecting archway, the addition of public art adds character to the area and reflects the city’s vibrant, ever-changing culture.
The new arch is free to visit and pass through, connecting the Company’s Garden and the rest of City Centre, near the Long Street Baths.
