The Meuse Farm Open Day Autumn Edition takes place on Saturday 9 March, showcasing a jam-packed schedule of creative workshops and sustainable cooking demos that highlight the farm’s speciality organic fruits and vegetables and their commitment to fair trade farming.

Dine on seasonal flavours with the Autumn Lunch
Meuse Farm resident chef Caitlin Kennedy will be serving up a delicious, seasonally inspired harvest table from 11:30am to 2pm. Dish a selection of contemporary dishes that incorporate special ingredients from the Hout Bay farm harvest.

Stock up on fresh produce at the food stalls and deli
Browse and choose your favourite organic specialist nibbles and drinks from Mount Elsewhere Bakery and South Yeaster pastries, sip on a fresh, farm-made cordial, or try the incredible collab beer – Aegir Beer x Meuse Farm (proudly made from the Meuse hops harvest). Award-winning coffee from Black Sheep will also be served to keep up the buzz.
Fresh farm produce, preserves, pickles, sauces, and more delicious items will also be on sale to fill up the pantry.

Learn crafting skills with the Woodwork Workshop by Connor Trembath
Join carpenter Connor Trembath for a super hands-on woodwork workshop, and take home your creation. The farm is offering a unique opportunity to learn the intricate art of wood carving and whittling with three options (a toggle, a peg, or a spreading knife). With two hours for this workshop, guests can choose to make designs as simple or complex as they like.
Growing up in South Africa, Connor was exposed to many indigenous forests that inspired him to want to work with and better understand trees. A carpenter by trade, he has expanded his skills into whittling and woodcarving, which he has found to be a source of joy and meditation.

Wesley Soule’s insightful Composting Workshop
Looking to part with your food waste consciously? An informative 1-hour Composting Workshop is running on Meuse Farm’s Open Day. The session is hosted by Wesley Soule, the founder and lead consultant of SoilScopes an official top conservation champion in Biodiversity in Nature and Society.
Wesley will do a deep dive into what compost is, how it can build your soils, regenerating soils in general, and all things related to micro-organisms. Guests can also learn the theory of making compost, some options for home-style composts, and supporting soil health.

Wine Conversations and Tasting session with Vee Roux
This is a reason alone to visit the Meuse Farm Open Day: Vamana Roux‘s world-class wine tasting in which guests learn all about organic wines. Chatting about farming practices and processing of organic and natural wines in South Africa, he’ll unpack details about the vineyards, the use of natural elements, and how the grapes are processed differently.
After 15 years in the hospitality industry, and almost 5 years in direct wine sales, Vee has an abundance of amazing knowledge about wines, producers, and practices that he loves to share. Experience the fine outcomes with some selected sipping.

Infusions Workshop with Yoraya: Make nature-inspired cocktails
Join extraordinary mixologist, Yoraya Nydoo for a fun-filled workshop on making mouth-watering non-alcoholic cocktails. Creating these sensational drinks with botanicals and herbs from the Meuse farm, guests will learn about making a flavour balance through shrubs and maceration with infusions of alcohol, vinegar, tea, and simple syrups.
Yoraya is a passionate mixologist with a flair for crafting innovative and flavourful cocktails. She honed her skills under the mentorship of renowned chef Arno Janse van Rensburg at the esteemed restaurant Janse & Co. in Cape Town and is the co-founder of Oxalis Eatery. She also curates the drinks and is the cocktail menu curator at One Park.

Kids activities with Abi
Children will also have plenty to keep them occupied with some wonderful activities. Abi, a forest school facilitator and skilled pottery teacher, brings a passion for nature and creative learning through play into the day. Facilitating children in forest spaces for four years, she believes the natural world is our best teacher.
Scavenger hunt through Meuse Farm, and Mask Decorating
Kids start the day at Meuse Farm with an indigenous-animal-themed scavenger hunt, searching for clues around the beautiful grounds. They’ll get to explore as a pack, camouflage their faces, and get their feet on the earth! After this, they will decorate their animal masks with colour, natural decorations, and recycled materials.

Clay Creation Workshop
Kids can get their hands in some clay and enjoy creating some pinch pots from natural black clay and processed terracotta. They’ll progress to make some other little figures and have fun exploring the feeling. Children can take home their creations.
