Wezandla Gallery and Craft Centre

Event information

Many of the pieces at the Wezandla Gallery and Craft Centre have made an arduous journey across Africa, eventually finding their way to Wezandla. The centre opened its doors in 1994, and represents artists from all over the continent. It specialises in African art, wire and wood sculptures, woven baskets, pottery, crafts and curios.

The gallery aims to stock unique one-off pieces, and in this market-type setting one can find artefacts and collectibles, traditional curios and one-of-a-kind gift items. These include everything from fabric, to beadwork, leather goods, jewellery, wall hangings, copper and brass, tableware, carvings, wooden figures and embroidery.

Wezandla African Craft Traders primarily sources items from local formal and informal craft suppliers, but has a large selection of pieces from other South African regions and the continent. The word ‘wezandla’ signifies the act of hands reaching out, and the gallery mimics this by helping to empower talented crafters to showcase their work on an international platform.
