Situated in the Gold Reef City Casino, theme park and entertainment complex towards the south of Johannesburg, the Lyric theatre is one of the city’s go-to entertainment venues.
It is known to host large international shows as well as popular musicals, music concerts, children’s shows, ballet and comedy. It has become common practice for many local comedians to launch their new stand-up productions at the Lyric. Household names from Trevor Noah, Loyiso Gola to Tumi Morake have all been on the Lyric stage.
Families are welcome, but age restrictions are stipulated for certain shows. The Theatre seats 780 people in its stalls; 300 in the balcony; 12 in its six royal boxes and there are six removal seats for wheelchair access. The inclusive facilities extend to kids and the hearing impaired. The theatre offers booster seats for children. It uses the Oticon loop system and the tele-loop option for hearing impaired audiences.
