The Caucasian Chalk Circle is a classical play written by Bertolt Brecht and produced by Menzi Khwane Creations for matric learners.
It is a play within a play and it begins with two groups of farmers who are deciding who should own a piece of land. In the middle of the discussion, a group of players is called to enact a play that will help them decide.
The play within this play tells the story of a kitchen maid who escaped a raid with a noble child and travels back after a long time with the child to later claim it as her own. The dispute over the child reflects the dispute over the land.
