Event information
Stillmind Retreats was founded in 2010 by Sue Cooper, a clinical psychologist with extensive experience as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, when she created and launched her ‘Open the Heart and Still the Mind’ courses and retreats, which integrate Buddhist meditation and psychotherapy.
The retreat has since expanded to include silent retreats where guests can stay for a weekend or longer if they wish. The retreats are offered throughout South Africa, at various venues which include the Somerset Gift Getaway Farm, Temenos Retreat Centre and Mont Fleur Conference Centre in the Western Cape; the Dharmagiri Sacred Mountain Retreat and The Buddhist Retreat Centre in KwaZulu-Natal; and the Emoyeni Retreat Centre in the North West Province.
Full day and weekend retreats are offered in-person while half-day retreats are available online via Zoom. Half-day and full-day retreats include guided meditations, qigong, teachings and reflections inspired by the wisdom of Buddhist psychology, as well as listening and talking meditations. ‘Open the Heart and Still the Mind’ courses offer a weekly silent retreat that integrates Buddhist psychology and meditation, suitable for both beginner and experienced practitioners.
