Event information
The small Soetdoring Nature Reserve covers approximately 75km² and is an easy day outing less than 45 minutes’ drive from Bloemfontein. The best time to visit is in the summer months between September and March.
This bare-bones reserve has minimal infrastructure, so expect gravel roads and few signposts. Be sure to request a map at the gate.
Over 284 species of birds have been recorded, but sightings vary according to season. The kind of wildlife often seen includes gemsbok, eland, springbok, blesbok, black wildebeest, zebra, and red hartebeest. If you're lucky you will spot impala, kudu, steenbok, duiker, and mountain reedbuck.
Most visitors go to Soetdoring Nature Reserve to picnic and braai along the river.
