Event information
Riemvasmaak is a 75 000ha mountainous desert wilderness between the Orange and the Molopo Rivers, approximately 57km from Kakamas and 170km from the Nakop border post with Namibia. The area was created from violent volcanic activity millions of years ago.
Two swimming pools have been constructed at the hot springs, allowing visitors to soak up the natural benefits of these therapeutic waters. The springs are dwarfed by 80m high granite cliffs.
To maximise the unique experience of this lunar-landscape the more active can also attempt a challenging 4×4 trail, or hike down the canyon to the Orange River.
There is 8-bed or 4-bed chalet accommodation at the springs. It's advisable to bring along a good supply of drinking water, as water is for ablution purposes only. Bathing suits, comfortable clothing, towels, insect repellent and sunscreen should complete the list of essential items.
