Local jazz ensemble, Kujenga, headlines the first in the new Texx and the City’s event series, On The Record powered by Shure.
On The Record is all about celebrating sounds and the stories and inspirations behind them, centering each performance around the Music as well as the Storytelling element attached to it. For each show The Outlore Base is transformed and styled to reflect not only the mood, but the tale that each musician wants to tell.
Young jazz group Kujenga has been on the rise in recent years, welcoming large, enthusiastic audiences to their electrifying performances. The release of their second album, 'In The Wake,' in 2024 further solidified their footing among the biggest jazz talents in South Africa.
Their sound is influenced by African jazz musicians that came before them and tends to draw inspiration from South African history as well, with their hit 'Hymn for Hani' being inspired by South African freedom activist, Chris Hani. Kujenga crafts an illuminating, introspective set that takes guests on a journey, explaining the stories behind their most celebrated songs.
